IEPs and 504 Plans for Children with Autism in Maryland

IEPs and 504 plans are two different legal frameworks for supporting children in Maryland public schools. Understanding which one fits your child helps you advocate more effectively.

IEP vs. 504 — what's the difference?

An IEP (Individualized Education Program) provides specialized instruction and services under IDEA. A 504 plan provides accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Many children with autism qualify for one or both depending on need.
