Understanding Insurance and Authorization

Insurance can feel like its own language. This guide explains, in plain terms, how coverage typically works for ABA therapy and how our team helps you along the way.

Coverage basics

ABA Prep accepts Maryland Medicaid and CareFirst. Every plan is a little different, so we always recommend a quick coverage check before assuming what is or isn't included.

We don't guarantee approval for any specific plan — what we do promise is a clear, honest conversation about what your coverage looks like and what next steps make sense.

What "authorization" means

An authorization is your insurance plan's approval to cover a specific type and amount of therapy for a set period of time. Most ABA services require an initial authorization and periodic renewals.

Authorizations depend on documentation from a diagnostic evaluation and, once services begin, from your BCBA's treatment plan and progress notes.

What our team helps with

Our family support team helps gather what's needed, submits documentation, tracks renewal dates, and keeps you posted along the way. If something changes with your plan, we'll flag it early.

Please share sensitive insurance details only through the secure channel we provide — not through this website or email.

Questions to ask

  • Is my current plan one you accept?
  • What information do you need from me to start a coverage check?
  • How long do authorizations typically last?
  • What should I do if my insurance changes mid-year?
